Vigil in honor of injured Deaf woman
June 3, 2018 @ 9:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
Last Wednesday, Precious Richardson was critically injured by a light rail train crossing the tracks at Snelling and University Avenues in Saint Paul. Precious is a Deaf and homeless community member beloved by the community.
Miscommunication by Metro Transit made the community believe that Precious had died last Friday; however, it has now been confirmed directly with Precious that she has thankfully survived and is recovering.
The violence Precious has endured from Metro Transit represents an ongoing inequity in the transit system and specifically the light rail system. Appropriate warning apparatuses for approaching trains were not in place for Deaf community members. Transit equity is a major problem that many in the Twin Cities communities have been working to bring awareness to. With the support of Precious, we want to hold this vigil to honor all victims of violence enacted by Metro Transit and the light rail system.
3 Chicks in a Truck is an organization that provides direct support to homeless neighbors and is hosting this vigil with Precious’s friends and community. Please join us with candles and signs to help lift Precious up in love and bring awareness to the destruction Metro Transit has left in its wake for not only Precious but countless other victims.
We want to thank Precious’s close friend, Allie Marie, especially for her lead in making this event happen and creating the flyer for this event. We also extend our appreciation to the homeless community who have rallied around Precious’s recovery.
Please meet us at 9:00 Pm at the intersection corners of Snelling Ave and University Ave W. in Saint Paul, MN on June 3rd.
**And please bring candles**
